The U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu’s call for green roofs is actually working miracles overseas also. Catering to the communiqué, the Commission for the New Economy and the Manchester Council are assessing if the green-roof technology could be applied to new and existing buildings alike. The UK’s property consultant Drivers Jonas and AECOM have supported the move.

During its second phase, a pilot scheme will be introduced covering the South Manchester Corridor area. Basing on its observations, Drivers Jonas and the AECOM might extend these plans across Great Manchester later. The economic development zone will serve as a role model for future ventures.
