Los Altos Academy of Engineering has made quite a name for itself in the green arena as they have been producing eco-friendly vehicles on a regular basis. Starting it with the Solar Shadow that joined in the World Solar Challenge in Australia, then the Infusion that won the Shell Eco Marathon, the Speed Racer – one of the world’s first electric cars, and the Project Zeus built back in 2007, the academy has a rich history for sure. Now this time around, the Los Angeles-based school unveils yet another eco-vehicle called HICE (Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine Vehicle) that modifies a regular motor Honda GX35 to work on hydrogen instead of gasoline.

The Hacienda La Puente Unified School District and La Puente Valley Regional Occupational Program jointly run the academy. After undergoing a test drive to fix some minor faults in February, the green car will be free of technical glitches before it is officially unveiled on May 8. The eco-car will be draped in red and white.
