A completely mind boggling technology wins funding to bring it into homes and businesses. What I am referring to here is light-emitting wallpaper, a technology is that has the potential to replace conventional light bulbs and benefit the environment. Developer of the wallpaper, LOMOX Ltd., has been awarded a grant of £454,000 from the Carbon Trust to take it a step further.

The technology uses an electrical current to stimulate chemicals to produce light. The wallpaper incorporates organic light emitting diodes (OLED), which can be coated on to a thin flexible film to cover walls, making a nice wallpaper. The same technology can be used flat screen televisions, computers and mobile phone displays as well. This amazing wallpaper requires a very low operating voltage and can be powered by solar panels or batteries, allowing it to be used outdoors to light road signs and barriers without the need for mains electricity. The Welsh company is expecting to make it available to lighting and screen producers by 2012.
