Re-imagining the Burridge Read Residence with creative timber work that harmonizes with the surrounding national park is what particularly helped David Boyle slam the grand prize at the 2010 Australian Timber Design Awards. The house flaunts a variety of new and recycled timbers, hand-crafted timber joinery and various wood sculptural elements. The timber-framed structure that has been twisted, stepped and stretched to the edges of the site includes a wooden exterior and interior with an element of recycling.
The house features recycled Blackbutt flooring, clear finished FC patina, random vertical Cedar batten and driveway and bench seating made from recycled railway sleepers. The curved wall panel around the bath and the cantilevered window’s frame is made using plywood. The vanity and another triangular bay window in the bedroom, projects from the walls like hanging rock shelves. The mixed North Coast Hardwood for the 4m long kitchen island and hoop pine veneer marine grade plywood for other joinery, internal sliding doors, wall panels and shelving were all hand crafted on site.
