Kids impress all with their solar powered creations at Iowa Arts Festival

Kids, when motivated in the right direction, can deliver what you generally do not expect them to be capable of doing. In the University of Iowa Delta Center inside the Iowa City Public Library, students created some impressive, solar-powered robots as part of the Iowa Arts Festival. Numerous palm-sized robots were put on display atop an overhead projector that further reflected some colorful images of these tiny bots on the wall. Kids, as young as the eight-year old Logan Creach, impressed all with their creativity.

Logan Creach came up with a miniature helicopter that featured tiny plastic blades, and it actually took flight as ‘the real thing’. Christian Faubel, a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Neurocomputing in Buchum, Germany, led the workshop that proved to be a hands-on learning experience for them. Over the next two weekends, the free workshops for children 8 and older will continue at the Iowa Children's Museum in Coralville.
