Kenyan sugar company to build an ethanol distillery plant

Mumias Sugar Co., a Kenyan grower and processor of the sweetener is really keen on constructing an ethanol plant. The company is looking for companies that could collaborate with it and help in realizing the dream of building an ethanol distillery plant in the East African nation. The group hopes to generate nearly 100,000 liters (26,385 gallons) of ethanol daily from the plant.

The sugar company wants its partners to help with designing, manufacturing in addition to installation of parts, testing of equipment and initiate operations on a turkey basis. The interested companies can submit their request by 15 January, after which eligible companies will be short-listed and allowed to participate in the bidding process. The company with a net turnover of Sh1.6 billion for the 2009, financial year has already being supplying electricity from a sugar cane waste plant to Kenya Power and Lighting since August. Mumias commissioned the 26-megawatt plant situated in the country’s west in May.
