Increasing carbon dioxide emissions have catapulted Kentucky to the list of states where the emissions level has more than doubled in 41 years. Kentucky ranks No. 7 on the list.

According to the U.S. Public Interest Research Group, carbon dioxide emissions in Kentucky have increased 209 percent within 41 years, the period between 1960 and 2001. The group blames combustion of oil from transportation and emission of coal from electricity as the primary culprits in increasing global-warming.
During this period, coal emissions have increased by 370 percent across the nation, with coal-fired power plants contributing to only about 67 percent of it.
