Jum Nakao's cut paper dresses lets wearers show their love for nature

Jum Nakao is a fashion designer from Brazil, who masters the art of creating amazing attires from used paper. The Brazilian fashion designer has made a whole clothing line by using pristine white paper. He has meticulously swapped it into alienesque geometric shapes, that have been given lacy designs. To make sure the patterns cut from paper get illustrated beautifully, the artist wraps his models in black bodysuits and traditional plastic Lego bowl cuts. Before they hit the runway, the models are carefully draped with the unique paper creations that are filled with details and are environment friendly.

The designer

Jum Nakao lives in São Paulo, and is a fashion designer by profession. He is a creation director and has his atelier in the above mentioned city. The artist is from Brazil, but his grandfather was a Japanese.

The inspiration

Jum has tried to exploit the relationship between the fashion line and the viewers. When children are given a piece of paper and pair of scissors, their natural tendency will be to cut it from different angles. The designer has used the same instinct, but in a refined manner.

According to Jum Nakao,

All of my works, for example the paper-made “A costura do invisivel” fashion line, have a playful relationship with the spectator. This lightness is necessary to get a distance from reality and a connection with the invisible, with people’s imagination, to let them see it from a different perspective – a less realistic one. These works lack concreteness and a clearly defined form, which would not allow the spectator’s personal interpretation. I see them more as an interface, so whoever looks at them participates and is able to find its own meanings.

The green factor

The designer embosses and laser-cuts vegetable-fiber paper. The chosen material, which has been given a lacy patter, is lightweight and makes all the clothes look slightly transparent. Nakao has also crafted a few outfits using polythene. His designs look nothing less than a fairytale that come attached with an enchanting feel. The line is eco friendly and polythene used is a found material.

The fab factor

Nakao has crafted the whole line using vegetable-fiber paper. The paper gave slight transparency to all the garments, which was embossed and precisely cut with the help of laser. Each and every garment has been designed in a tasteful, elegant and eye-appealing manner. The clothes rank very high on the fab level and their green nature makes them all the more attractive. The designer has given a lot of stress on detailing.

The ensemble:

The vegetable-fiber paper is given elaborate details and cut into alienesque geometric shapes. All the clothes have a web of lacework, which looks very graceful. The dresses, in actuality, were made for a garbage dump photography editorial in Rio de Janeiro, but later a whole line was created.
