We have been listening to the eco-axiom: recycle, reduce and reuse, for quite some time now. As Jill Sigman, Artistic Director of ThinkDance, completes her Hut Project, she gratifies the adage to the maximum. The project includes construction of a series of site-specific huts made from found and discarded materials. She utilizes natural materials such as wormwood twigs, discarded plastic, cardboard tubing, pieces of clothes and bubble wrap.

The huts function as extravagant versions of the ‘emergency preparedness kit’, vodou ‘paquet congo’ that derive their power from the nature of the objects they contain whether or not they are visible, glimpses of the future, and sculptures that one can inhabit. They are containers—places where the concepts of dwelling, structure, and art object meet.
The teepee built from strewn trash allows guests an opportunity to spend a night, provided they follow some strict hut rules.
