Intel Corp. has taken a step toward achieving its 2012 goals related to water use, global-warming emissions, energy consumption, waste reduction and product energy efficiency. According to the company’s new contracts, it will undertake 2.5 MW worth of new solar power projects at eight U.S. locations in Arizona, California, New Mexico and Oregon. The company also announced that it has renewed and increased by 10 percent its purchase commitments for renewable energy credits of its estimated 2010 U.S. electricity use.

It is anticipated that each project would rank as one of the 10 largest solar installations in its respective region. If we take into consideration the present scenario, the panels planned for Intel's Chandler and Ocotillo campuses in Arizona would be the fifth largest in the Salt River Project service territory. It is expected that the largest installation, a 1 MW solar field installed over 6 acres of land, will be seen being installed at the roof of Intel's facilities in Folsom, Calif. All the Intel installations will make use of the energy produced at their respective sites, making them an efficient source of electricity with savings on grid delivery losses. Recently, Intel received EPA's Green Power Partner of the Year Award for its green initiatives.
