A teams of students at the Canara Engineering College, in India, has developed a tribrid (uses two or more distinct power sources) scooter. The V-Spark 3 scooter relies on solar panels, electric motors and conventional gasoline as well. The onboard solar panels replenish the energy it consumes during electric transmission.

The tribrid scooter bases itself on the concept of parallel tribrid system, which utilizes a single accelerator and speedometer for both mechanical and electrical transmission. Therefore, in case a mode of transmission stops working, the other mode provides the needed backup.
