India moves to bring big cats back in the Sariska Tiger Reserve

Two years now, antelopes grazing grass are no more a rare view at the Tiger Point in Sariska Tiger Reserve. It is simply because their predators have disappeared from the parks located in the semi-arid region of western India's Aravalli Hill Range. They can now 'fearlessly' roam the entire reserve in search of grass.

Where have all the tigers disappeared? This is a common question in the minds of any enthusiast visiting the reserve by its name. They have all fallen victim to 'poaching', for which, the negligence on the part of the park and state government authorities are pointed at.

With poachers running their illegal trade in full bloom, had slaughtered at least 13 tigers over four years, shockingly wiping out the entire tiger population in Sariska by early 2005!

But, hope this soon becomes history and the habitats are again thronged by the big cats. Yes, there are such chances, as the officials are now planning to bring the big cats back to the reserve.

This plan brings smile to the face of conservationists, according to whom, this initiative would be the world's first ever attempt in reintroducing tigers to a habitat. According to Reuters, Laxmi Narayan Dave, minister for environment in Rajasthan state where Sariska is located, said,

This has never been done anywhere in the world and it is a challenge, but we can do it.
