We have seen a number of interesting fridge concepts lately and joining the horde is the “IceCloud”. Developed by designer Fanni Csernátony for the Electrolux Design Lab 2010, the concept is an intelligent, comfortable and eco-friendly cooler appliance that relies on passive cooling and clay pots. It derives inspiration from Zeer, clay pot used to keep the food fresh and cold in the deserts of Nigeria. It features Peltier modules that produce thermoelectric power, from the difference of the inside and outside temperatures, for built-in displays, sensors and ventilators.

The IceCloud also extracts the humidity from the air, allowing natural cooling. Apart from its obvious energy efficiency, this new form of fridge also shows way to saving space especially for those who live in cramped apartments since it can levitate vertically from the wall. What is even more fascinating is the fact that it offers some kind of connectivity, giving the convenience to download the latest recipes and health-care advices that can be seen on the digital display.
