Habitat for Humanity of Matthews, a nonprofit, Christian organization that works with people from all walks of life to build communities to provide a healthy lifestyle to people everywhere. This time around, the organization adds another noble act to their work, which will not only help the needy, but the environment too. It has built the framework of its first Green Build house yesterday.


Habitat-Matthews will build the house to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, standards and hope to helps future homeowners cut costs. This eco-friendly dwelling will include green features like energy-efficient lighting, green insulation systems, eco-friendly flooring and paint. This house can save the homeowner up to 40 percent. For this increase in electric and water saving, the organization will have to pay an extra $2,000. This extra cost is expected to be obtained from a federal grant.
