After putting in over six months of strenuous effort, a student team from Weaver Academy’s Advanced Technology Program in Guilford County has helped a Mazda RX7 to eschew its habit of guzzling harmful gases. The team, including dozens of students and three instructors, kept hitting and trialing on certain electric parts, such as electric motor, the batteries and the control package to convert it into an electric car. Their exploits were recognized at the SMARTT Challenge (Students Making Advancements in Renewable Transportation Technology) as the team went on to win six trophies with an honorable mention and the rookie of the year award.

The team made sure that their car does well in terms of vehicle safety, design, overall appearance and maneuverability. They completed the electric car this year; you will see them designing and constructing a solar-powered car recharging station next year.
