Google to rely on seawater and recycled water for cooling in Finland

Desh Raj SharmaSep 16 2010

Google’s first dedicated data center in a Nordic County in Hamina, Finland, will rely on seawater from the Baltic Sea and recycled water for cooling purposes. The US$260 million, under-construction data center will not use any chillers. Google states that nearly eighty-percent of its cooling will run on recycled water.

We are looking at employing around 200 people in the building phase, and about 50 people when it is up and running.

So, the data center, which will include two server halls, will also be creating green jobs for the South Finland unemployeds.
