Global Warming May Cause Caterpillar Outbreak Warning Human Food Supplies

caterpillars

We have heard of various species that may disappear with the dramatic change in the world climate. But, an outbreak of an insect! And that too butterfly! As a response to rapid global warming, the weather is getting wackier. And this is leading to a decrease in parasitism against caterpillars, biologists warn in a new study. So can we say, outbreak of dominant species as a result of global warming, is on? What’s more in store for us to witness and perhaps suffer? If we can’t predict that, we can atleast very well see the consequences of this outbreak. It will free the caterpillars to devour agricultural fields and strip leafy forests bare. “That’s really of great concern, especially to agricultural systems where we rely on several of these parasites. They keep outbreaks from occurring,” said Lee Dyer, a biologist at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. The study issues a serious warning about the vulnerability of human food supplies to global warming.
