While aiming to put a figure on our energy consumption habits, a Boston-based industrial designer David Estupinan comes up with a concept lamp that steps beyond its primary function. The energy efficient lamp, which is dubbed GIRA, is dependent on user’s physical interaction to illuminate those dark hours of night.
A 9V Lithium-ion battery housed in its center infuses enough charge when the lamp is placed on the induction charging dock. Several LED lights keep working for over 300 thousand hours on a single charge. The hourglass-shaped lamp dims down after every two hours and asks for manual flip upside-down to resume its function.
