Some huge rainforest tree stumps from the Tropics will adorn the Natural History Museum and Pitt Rivers Museum, in Oxford, with an otherworldly connotation. Through the installation of these stumps, artist Angela Palmer urges the public to realize the plight of the world’s rainforests. The Ghost Forest is slated to be there from July 9, 2010 through July 31, 2011.

Alarmed by the fact that an area the size of a football pitch vanishes every four seconds, Angela says…
This is not yet another message about climate change "doom and gloom". It carries a message of hope and optimism for the future.

Angela hauled these stumps from Suhuma forest in western Ghana. While three of these stumps were felled for selective logging operation, other seven were thrashed by storms. The artist raised this art installation as part of her mission to ‘bring the rainforest to Europe’. Once the exhibition ends next July, the sustainable concrete plinths that support these trees will be recycled.
