Studio Noach and Anne Holtrop have conceived a floating spa for the spa exhibition “Architecture of Consequence” in the Netherlands. A fjord seeking to meet the water will bring forth an unparalleled landscape and a visual delight too. With four days left for the exhibition, the architects assure that they won’t let the eco-aspects of the construction go unnoticed.

The eco-construction makes use of recycled polystyrene and Patrick Blanc’s “living wall” ideas to fashion its walls, ceilings and incorporated valleys and hills. GreenRexwall, the composite construction material developed together with Aquahouse GmbH, allows architects to sideline any use of cement, steel and bricks altogether. The energy-efficient spa utilizes the surrounding water for cooling purposes and as such, 70 percent more energy efficiency is realized.
Finally, yet importantly, you could see birds, butterflies and insects freely roaming all through the spa as the vegetated walls and roof provide these creatures with a breeding ground. So, it won’t be wrong to label it as an environmental, technical and ecological construction.
