You might have seen so many blimps soaring to glory to endorse or sponsor something, but the one shown above is definitely different from all. Created by some Swiss modernizers from Empa – an interdisciplinary research and services institution for material sciences and technology development, the blimp takes inspiration from the shape of a fish. Inflated into an oval shape, the flying oeuvre is created from a transparent plastic and it has a fish tail tacked onto its rear portion.


Certain carbon-sandwich structures ensure that the blimp remains as lightweight as possible. A joystick connected to a computer controls it through its flight. It has panels on both sides and some actuators to set it into a swiveling motion. Here is the video that shows the biologically inspired flying vehicle in motion.
