Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) has become one of the first beneficiaries to receive green funding from the Federal Government. Subsequently, it introduces a fleet of 58 New Flyer hybrid buses supposed to arrive by the fall. Now, it is what can be termed as prudent utilization of $241 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Not all of it, only $50 million goes for this green makeover of transportation.

How will it benefit CTA?
1) With the inclusion of these buses, the whole transit system will get stimulated while the eco-friendly fleet touches the 208 mark.
2) Being energy-efficient and having low cost of maintenance, it will help CTA save $7 million annually.
3) The buses have electrical outlets for auxiliary heating and cooling, thanks to its efficient batteries.
New Flyer Industries Inc.(NFI) offers a comprehensive product line including drive systems powered by LNG, CNG and electric trolley. The hybrid range goes on to tout energy-efficient gasoline-electric and diesel-electric hybrid vehicles.
