While researching along the archaeological and architectural lines, Wolf D. Prix, the design principal and CEO of Coop Himmelb(l)au, wrapped it up in proposing the Energy Roof for the center of Perugia. Studded with photovoltaic cells and five wind turbines, power-generating installation will supply the city of Perugia with the green energy. It will also serve as a parasol to the guests who visit the Etruscan city for archaeological enlightenment.

The roof was devised as a part of the research project, dubbed as Walking Though the History, of the University of Perugia. While the west wing of the roof is slightly oriented to utilize solar radiations, the east wing is designed to capture wind. A computer driven scripting program controls individual cells and also, help them in tracking the sun. The inner structural layer dedicates itself to wind turbines for generating more energy.

The bottom layer combines laminated glazing and translucent pneumatic cushions for maximizing the green dividends.
