Already flaunting Asia’s largest flotilla of solar-powered boats, the Port of Kaohsiung is all set to grow bigger and greener through the proposed construction of two state-of-the-art buildings, which will unite to create the Kaohsiung Pop Music Center. Located at anchor points on the site, the 12,000 seat public amphitheater will make abundant use of green energy technology viz. skin-embedded thin-film solar technology, BioWAVE technology on the seabed to follow multidirectional movements of sea water, greenscaping and so forth.

One of the constituent buildings will lift into the air, while the other one will lie embedded in the ground. The elevated design will allow ample natural shade (a protected space) to the Pop Music Center’s nine Performance Halls. The halls will organize themselves inside bubbles nested between skin layers. A three-dimensional topography will include different layers with space between them, which will act as an environmental buffer zone for providing insulation and cooling.
