Whenever we think of linkhouses, all that comes to our minds is a picture of dark and unventilated houses. Not only do these dingy linkhouses make your life hell, but they also do a lot to inflate the carbon footprint, as inhabitants are not left with any choice than to keep lights and air-conditioning on, even during the day.

Clement Wong, an architect from Malaysia, has renovated his linkhouse incorporating some useful green features. To give some relief to homeowners of such dwellings, here are some DIY tips he used to breathe new life into his home.
• Incorporate two openings in a room, as it is essential for cross-ventilation.
• Brighten the interiors perforate the ceilings with skylights.
• Infuse narrow gaps just below the glass cover of the skylights, which cool the house by allowing hot air to escape.
• Include a green roof that cools down the building as well as is excellent for the environment.
• Install a rain harvesting system to conserve water.
• Use reclaimed material instead of new plywood for roofing purposes.
