Soldiers bear the dangerous consequences of war to provide a peaceful life to us. Now it is our turn to give them something in return. Making one such effort is PowerTraveller’s chief executive Jerry Ranger, who is donating hundreds of solar-powered chargers to power up DVD players and game consoles of soldiers in Afghanistan. Another company called ‘Daily Mirror’ is giving hundreds of hi-tech gadgets to keep the lonely troops entertained.

The Daily Mirror has collaborated with Shop Direct's online giants Littlewoods and Woolworths to send more than 1000 gifts to each of the 20-plus UK Forward Operating Bases all over flashpoint Helmand Province, South East Afghanistan. The presents that will make the lives of these young soldiers a little better, include portable DVD players, special lighting, Nintendo game consoles, iPod speakers and gym equipment.
Mr. Ranger, who severed the Royal marines as a specialist diver for good eight years is quite aware of what the troops go through. Hence, he decided to do his bit for them by donating hundreds of solar-powered chargers. The Power Monkey Explorers manufactured by his company will help the troops to keep their electrical gadget charged at all times. This portable solar charger can hold charge up to six months and is compatible with almost all electrical items. It is designed to withstand extreme climates, thereby making it a perfect choice for Afghanistan. PowerTraveller also received the Queen's Award for Enterprise, Innovation this year for its Power Monkey Explorers.
The campaign to help the courageous soldiers was launched by the Mirror, Shop Direct and troop’s charity the Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen and Families Association (SAFFA) this week.
