At the Bainbridge Island Studio Tour, would-be and celebrated artists get a chance to exhibit their handmade, locally crafted artworks biannually. This year, noted artist Elizabeth Emison will put her recycled copper-made shoes on public view from December 3 through 5. Each shoe is an out-and-out work of art, which can be custom ordered. The whimsical sculptures are just perfect for use as centerpieces with votives, gifts, decorative paperweights, and so forth.
Shoes last forever–at least these do. They’re a labor of love. The way I see it, life is short. Buy the shoes. You have to make yourself happy. Making these shoes, among other things, makes me happy. I like seeing others smile when they purchase a unique piece of artwork that no one else will have.
Each of her one-of-a-kind copper shoes involves art welding and braising. The design complexity defines how much time a particular piece would take. She had been exhibiting her art at several exhibitions, the latest being at Art on Main in St. Helena, Ca. this fall. Aside from the exhibitions, she has just recently finished a collection of mini shoes for Circle & Square, a boutique in San Francisco.
