It is nice to see sculptures made from found and recycled materials invading public places like parks, malls, nature reserves, streets and rest stops, on a regular basis. This rate of recurrence is attributable to eco-aware artists who are doing their level best to deny trash a place in landfills. Bill Gould is one such artist who eyes the Pinewood Park in the Starlite Pines neighborhood as a perfect place to erect his Green Tree that seeks to impart a definitive grace to old toys, compact discs, glass, metals and other recycled materials.

Green Tree is a whimsical steel sculpture, approximately 12 feet in diameter and 20 feet high. The tree will actually provide shade to passersby and the branches will sing in tune with the wind reflecting light in all directions.

Due for its official installation today at the park, the $20,000 tree sculpture is the result of a joint effort by the sculptor, Milpitas community and some students from Pearl Zanker Elementary School. All kept working for eight months under the city's Art in Your Park Program initiative to raise this local landmark.
