Gehrlicher Solar AG has officially inaugurated what is being called the largest solar power plant in Swabia. The 25.7MW Lauingen Energy Park spread over a 63-hectares area includes a total of 306,084 thin-film modules that convert sunlight into energy. After the completion of the last construction stage Helmeringen III in June 2010, this power plant is capable of producing 28.98 million kilowatt hours of green electricity, which is enough to power 7,500 three-person households yearly.

The Lauingen Energy Park is the largest solar power plant Gehrlicher Solar AG has built so far. Out of the 306,084 thin-film modules used in the power plant, 288,132 were manufactured by global market leader First Solar, while the remaining 17,952 came from Yingli. The photovoltaic corporation claims this plant has the potential to save nearly 14,353 tons of carbon emissions annually.
