With the ticking of the clock, the spell of global warming seems to increase. But, what are we doing as individuals to counterattack it. Ever given a thought?
Global warming is a menace that would choke life out of everything and contribute to climate change. It needs to be tackled both individually and collectively. However, there are a few who think that in no way do they contribute to global warming, while few others feel that they are familiar and know how to be defensive against warming. It is everyone’s responsibility to contribute their best in curbing rise in temperatures.
How to?
· As a starter, we can switch to fluorescent bulbs, which though costly will emit less heat, thereby lessening the heat impact on the environment along with contributing less to our electricity bills. One should try to use as much electricity as needed. Over excessive use of such a valuable resource is a mere wastage, which only adds to raising temperatures and also our electricity bill.
· Trees act as carbon sinks, breathing in the carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and releasing oxygen also keep the environment cool. We should pledge to plant trees as individuals in our homes. Ruthless deforestation for setting human settlements, factories is only burdening the environment. Therefore, it becomes our bounden duty to plant trees for our environment to breathe.
· Wastage of water and food burdens the environment to produce more. Do you know it takes billions of years for soil and water to regenerate? And if continue exploiting such valuable resources, it will only degrade our environment, choking air out of it.
· Throwing waste on roads and streets sounds unethical. The best option is recycling of waste and garbage, however, this is not our duty to recycle waste. We can only help in dumping the garbage at one place and not everywhere.
· Green burials have been proposed in the UK and the U.S., however, the method cannot fit in countries like India, where cremation is another sacred ritual, with burning of the dead bodies.
· Petrol and diesel contribute a lot to warming and pollution. How about running all vehicles on CNG or LPG. But, the best method will be running vehicles on solar energy, the smokeless energy.
. Go for reuseable bags rather than those plastic ones, which are one of the culprits in polluting environment.
If you are a responsible global citizen, then it is your duty to advocate the evils of global warming or climate change to your near and dear ones, who would further warn their fellows about the havoc. Global warming will not spare anyone. We have to give it a serious thought and take action. If we don’t initiate, who else will?
