Spend your weekend creatively by designing a world class Starburst mirror out of wooden clothespin. Taking her cue from Ballard designs, Diane Henkler created her own customized version of a clothespin mirror. Made out of household materials, the mirror is a true piece of art and it will add to your decor a charm of its own.

Difficulty Level:
With a little bit of patience by your side, and these simple instructions, the difficult level can be reduced to medium. It’s a simple and creatively done process.
Time required:
Depending on how many pieces you want to make, the time can be adjusted accordingly. Speaking in terms of one mirror, it should not take you more than a few hours to wrap up the completion process. Decorate the mirror the way you fancy and see others envy the finished creation.
Estimated Cost:
All the materials can be arranged right out of your household. Put on your looking glasses, pick up your strength and muster all those creative skills. Even if you’re unable to find the stuff from your household, even then it would not cost you much to build the mirror at home.
What are you going to need?
1. Some wooden spring loaded clothespins
2. One round mirror (The quantity shall vary according to the number of mirrors you would like to make)
3. Some glue sticks along with one hot glue gun
4. A roll of ribbon or picture hanger. Instead of a picture hanger, you can even use a clip. It would solely be required for hanging the mirror once its complete. Please ensure that the clip is strong so that it can bear the weight of the finished product.
Things to keep in mind:
While making the mirror, make sure you don’t end up scratching its surface. If this happens, it would end up ruining all your efforts and you may have to start all over again.
Handle the glue carefully, especially, if its permanent glue you’re using.
The spacing should be appropriate between all the wooden pegs. If the spacing is irregular, then the finished product would not look creative and may end up giving a bad look to the onlookers.
Procedure:
1. Take the mirror and clip all the clothespins around it. This will help you to place all of them at a proper and equal distance before gluing them. To make sure that the clothespins don’t align in a crooked manner, place any round object like a plate or can on the middle of the mirror.
2. After placing all the clothespins evenly, take each pin one by one and glue it on the mirror. The flat section is where the hot glue will be applied, after opening the clothespins. Before adding it to the mirror, make sure that the glue has been dabbed on both the sides, by opening and closing it a few times.
3. The above step has to be followed for all the clothespins. Once they are in place, do away with the round object.
4. To hang:
*To hang with a ribbon:
A colorful ribbon will make the mirror look all the more vibrant. All you have to do is simply keep one clothespin side and after opening it, take the center of the ribbon and place it alongside the hinge. Now close the clothespin and glue it like you did for the others. Once the ribbon is in place, make a cute bow out of both its ends and it will be ready to decorate you wall.
*To hang without ribbon:
If you don’t like the whole idea of fixing a ribbon, then the other option is to place a picture-hanging hook on the rear of the mirror instead.
*Spray-Painted Version:
To add a dash of color to the mirror you can spray-paint the clothespins. But remember to do it before you glue them to the mirror.
*Colorful Version:
Well, if you don’t like the paint idea then here is a paper one. Take scrapbook paper and cut it into the dimension of a clothespin. Once this is done, you are ready to glue it to the clothespin and see the color spill on the mirror.
