Danish school kids released their own newspaper to cover COP15

During the last week, you might have been reading or listening to multifarious climate reports from the COP15. While some journalists patted world leaders on their back for, at least, trying to arrive at an agreement, others censured them for indulging in petty climate politics. However, in Copenhagen itself, some 23-schoolkids aged 12 and 13 years old came up with their own vision of the climate talks as they produced their own narrative via their climate newspaper – The NSG Times.

The Class 7 kids from the Niel Steensen’s secondary school in Copenhagen adopted the English language, a second language to them, as their mode of expression. Hailing from varied faculties - Biology, Geography and English, the budding journalists delivered a positive tale of the climate talks. They covered scientific, cultural articles and breaking news as well under the able guidance of their English teacher, Louise O’Flanagan Henrichsen.

Not only did they design the layout of the 12-page newspaper, but also exhibited tremendous diligence in their coverage of the event. As a part of the learning experience, the nascent columnists visited the Rethink Contemporary Art and Climate Change exhibition too.
