Connie Maitland creates contemporary artwork from old discarded stuff

Connie Maitland is here to display her magnificent artwork with reminiscence of days gone amalgamated beautifully with contemporary elements. The Grand Rapids recycle artist creates magic with discarded items such as jewelry, clothing, hats, household items and furniture from another era. She discovered her passion for art way back in 2001, when she started with painting antique mirror frames and then went on to add jewels to some of the pieces.

Committed towards saving the environment with her recycling act, the owner of Adoorne Recreations sprinkles a ting of new life into old stuff by using sparkles and glitters. In fact, sparkle has become a signature trademark for much of Maitland's artwork. A holiday centerpiece by the artist incorporates an old wooden stool serving as its base, while bows made from strips of torn fabric is fixed firmly into a garland and draped over a glittery pumpkin. To add more charm to it old metal stars sprinkled with glitter are added.

To set spirits high for Christmas Maitland has designed a dramatic four foot silver Christmas tree. This add-on to her holiday design comes loaded with antique chandelier prisms and bits of jewelry hanging from its branches that glisten in the glow of twinkling lights. Complimenting a tabletop display is a group of smaller holiday trees. If you wish to see some more of her work then you could find it at Bluedoor Antiques and Elements, 946 Fulton Street, East, in Grand Rapids.
