Aiming to be the key fuel supplier in South East Asia, the US-based Clenergen will set up a biomass-run power plant in Romblon. It has entered into an agreement with the Romblon State University (RSU) for availing the supply of Beema bamboo (an Indian variety) and the National Power Corp. that will purchase electricity generated at the plant. Ideally suited for any bamboo-growing island, the biomass plant will rely on bamboo and coconut on alternative basis.

Antonio Aguilar-Gimenez, Clenergen Philippines President, said…
This Beema bamboo can yield 100 tons per hectare after the third year from which we will produce wood chips as feed for a gasifier that will run engines for the power plant.
After some extensive breeding and microbiology applications (gasification, combustion steam, pelletization, and pyrolysis process), Beema bamboo now grows five times denser than the Philippine bamboo and can be planted in marginal sites.
