China plans 1 trillion yuan alternative energy project to ease oil import dependency!

China plans to develop an alternative energy source based on coal to decrease the country's dependence on oil imports, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) informed. For developing these, the country will be investing over one trillion yuan (about 127 billion U.S. dollars).

The project targets that it is by 2020, the country would be capable of producing 30 million tons of liquefied coal and 20 million tons of dimethyl ether (DME). Once successfully developed, the output of coal-to-olefin (CTO) is expected to hit 8 million tons, with that of coal methanol's reaching 66 million tons.
