A recent study conducted by the Russian space agency Roscosmos reveals that China has contributed 40 percent of the debris to space until date. Most of it is attributable to the Chinese military, which, in 2007, tore apart a defunct weather satellite to add some 2,800 pieces of free-flying shrapnel to space debris.
