That what seemed a dream for Charlotte County once can be seen shaping into reality. After two and a half years of anticipation, finally a plant that would turn trash into electricity broke ground at a landfill. The energy generated would power even the homes in the county, in addition to the plant itself. Nearly 2,000 homes will benefit from the energy produced at this site.

The gas system built by Mas Energy works by sending 28 drills into the trash, after which gas is sucked up through a machine into a collection system. In the system, the gas is burned to convert it into powder. The powder will be sold to get federal money by reducing its carbon footprint for a total of 800,000 dollars annually. This eco-friendly effort will help in reducing the environmental impact to a great extent. The plant will be operational sometime next year. The landfill will continue to produce methane for at least 30 years.
