Cash for Appliances: Another initiative toward a green future

After luring US citizens with the highly successful Cash for Clunkers program, Obama’s administration has come up with a new $300 million Cash for Appliances initiative. It’s strictly for those who couldn’t benefit from the former policy. The plan hopes to provide a $50 to $200 rebate for choosing a new, energy efficient, Energy Star covered appliance. It’s not a trade-in scheme, mind you. Unlike the Cash for Clunkers, you don’t need to drag your old appliances in.

It will benefit companies like Whirlpool, Electrolux and General Electric. However, for the major part, Cash for Appliances will help green-minded customers to reduce the energy costs. Anyhow, if you want a new washing machine, dishwasher or refrigerator, you need to wait until the Department of Energy finalizes the plan. You might see it rolling by November hopefully.
