Decked with 1.4 kW solar arrays, a 1,700 square-foot roof garden, and domed skylights, the wheelchair accessible treehouse at Camp Twin Lakes in Rutledge, Georgia, will surely be an edifying experience for differently abled kids. Amy Leathers from Lord, Aeck & Sargent wished to transform the treehouse into an instructional space for imparting lessons on environmental philosophy.

The solar arrays are capable enough to power the ceiling fans and misting system installed in the treehouse. Students in an introductory sculpture class at Savannah College of Art and Design put some wooden telephone poles to better use in creating the foundation, totem poles and various animal sculptures. While providing kids at Camp Twin Lakes with a space sheltered by trees, the selected design also allows sufficient space for two composting toilets.
