This sofa, made of 999 hand-woven bamboo balls, was created with the assistance of craftsman Su-jen Su. Measuring H52 x W166 x D70 cm with a seat height of 35 cm, this unique and matchless piece of furniture utilizes bamboo balls, commonly found in any bamboo craft person’s shop, and binds them together with metal rings and rubber.

Displayed at a show at the Triennale di Milano during Milan Design Week 2011, the matchless sofa highlights the history of bamboo furniture and the material’s structural possibilities. Talking about the (Yii) initiative undertaken by Taiwan Craft Research Institute, its creative director Gijs Bakker termed the collection exhibited at Milan by 12 Taiwanese and three international designers as :

“a marriage between designers and craftspeople”.
