Britain unveiled its first domestic high-speed rail service this week. Although passengers will have to loosen their pockets a little more to travel by the Japanese-built 140mph trains running from London to Kent, these super-fast trains will cut down on journey times significantly. As part of a preview service, the Javelins were first introduced in June in limited numbers.

The high-speed trains will bring down the journey time from London to Ramsgate from 81 minutes to half an hour, while commuting from Ashford to London will require only 37 minutes compared with the present one-hour journey. This decrease in journey time will attract many people to travel by these trains and give up on their fuel-guzzling, pollution emitting cars. The government has recently announced a $32 billion investment in railway infrastructure. Let’s hope these Javelin trains will change things for passengers and the environment.
