Creativity knows neither age nor sex, neither religion nor education. We all know about this much of the cliche, but when you begin to see the works of Brendon Jamison, this cliche doesn’t seem a set of words, it makes sense and it becomes contextual. Brendon Jamison, a young contemporary artist, whose work has always received rave reviews for his out-of-the-box approach and creativity. This time Jamison has surprised both his admirers and critics equally by creating a huge tower, made up of almost quarter of a million sugar cubes. The artist claims that the tower is the largest sugar cube sculpture in the world.
All of 31 years, Jamison is a name which critics of the art world take seriously for his creativity expressed through his ‘one of a kind’ sculptures. Jamison has largely worked on biomorphic forms and his work has been appreciated for bright colors and vivid imagination. Jamison has used almost all kind of textures in last eight years of his work ranging from wool to bronze to wax to wood. But his sculptures made from sugar has fetched him largest number of fans and reviews of appreciation.
Way back in 2004, Jamison used sugar cubes for making biomorphic forms and created a series of sculptures for one of his shows. He showed a series of seven towers, made in such a way, that they appeared to be in a precarious situation, about to collapse. Encouraged by the reviews and number of visitors, after 7 years, this time Jamison has come up with a huge sugar cube tower. The tower weights 506 kilograms and has used around a quarter of a million sugar cubes. Funding for this ambitious project came from Eastbourne’s Towner Museum and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. The tower took three years to design and was completed with the help of Jamison’s chief fabricator and long term ally Mr. Karin Bamford. The total volume of tower is x 180 x 100 cms. For installation of tower, sugar cubes have been used in huge quantities; spreading over the floor in the exhibition hall and making a huge sea of white crystals.

The exhibition is being organised by famous curator Sanna Moore thereafter from December 2011 to February 2012 the tower will be on display at Ormeau Baths Gallery, Belfast, curated by Feargal O’Malley.
