Just to make you feel that your projection of a huge public space wasn’t that huge actually, the designers at Njiric+ Arhitekti venture to design an actually large stadium dubbed as Blue Volcano. Housed within an artificial hill made of recycled rubber, and a blue pigment enhancing the charm of the corrugated aluminum sheets, the stadium has an open roof with a suspended balloon structure dubbed the Cloud. The Zeppelin-like structure is studded with photovoltaics that produce solar energy.

The Cloud serves another function in allowing natural light to seep into the stadium and offers shade for the occupiers as well. Perfectly suited to organize events like skateboarding and free-climbing, the sustainable stadium concept will surely correct your perception of ‘big’.
