Barrel Monster artist creates medieval knight from recycled street signs

Where an exquisite artwork Barrel Monster landed Joe Carnevale behind the bars, a huge elephant made from discarded computers and computer-parts last year – unimpressive though – sought to restore some deference to the artist. This time, the guerrilla artist makes a medieval knight, dubbed as Street Knight, from abandoned street signs to commemorate Earth Day. The sculpture seems to oversee the passersby on a corner of Cameron Village, North Carolina.

Joe says…

It’s easier. It’s less fun. The first three or four nights of going around and cutting down signs would have been fun, but I would have had to do a lot of it. And I don’t have to worry about the Raleigh Police Department coming after me again.

With no thieving was involved this time, Carnevale molded the street signs donated by a company into art. Though Joe is hopeful of getting a permanent fixture to his sculpture in Cameron itself, he will sell it to a local gallery after two weeks if his plan does not succeed.
