Asakusa Tree Home puts green living practices on a vertical pedestal

Japanese house designs always impress with their special focus on sustainability and a green lifestyle. The Asakusa Tree Home in Osaka redefines the notion with the inclusion of vertical, structural columns that provide a pedestal for solar panels and wind turbines. The architectural firm Ryuichi Ashizawa Architects made sure that the 30sqm concept home caters to all aspects of green living.

The slabs are laden with soil to support local vegetation. The wall-less structure mimics traditional Japanese homes with movable walls, maybe to make them earthquake-resistant. Highly impressive is the power-circulation system backed with the inter-connected structural pipes of the columns that allow the green energy to pass through them. The tree home could meet all energy requirements of the vertical installation.
