Around the U.S. on a solar-powered stroller, at 74

No dream is too big to achieve, provided you are conversant with what it requires actually: perseverance, concentrated effort and a will to excel. Bruce Maynard, a Bellingham businessman and veteran marathoner, is one of those dreamers. Despite some major knee problems, he wishes to do 30 miles a day on his journey to Key West, Fla. on his solar- and battery-powered jogging stroller. The 120-pound stroller named Sam is fitted in with a foldable solar panel that doubles as a computer stand and work table.

Bruce says...

Once you make the decision, the doing of it, I've found, is pretty easy... I decided I wanted to really start walking and see what I could do... I have good health, I have the ability to do things. By God, I should be doing things.

Journey for self's sake:

Though he has traveled across the country many times before, this time, however, he wishes to explore the unexplored – sauntering, appreciating, and the most importantly, proving his point. No charity or awareness campaign involved; what he aspires to travel for is self-satisfaction. So, he’ll lend a helping hand to green goings-on wherever he finds an opportunity to do so. Along his journey, he’ll carry boat-hook poles to support a large tent for shelter during nights.

Maynard will go through a trick knee surgery before his six-month trip in April.
