Sun Red solar moped wasn’t labelled Armadillo in the air by its designers. The moped’s unique casing pinpoints the source of its design inspiration, the Armadillo a placental mammal known for having a leathery armor shell. Barcelona-based Guimeraicinca, a partnership between designers and educators Oriol Guimera and Joan Cinca, conceptualized a retractable shell covering over the bike for dual reasons.
Firstly, the casing has embedded solar panels to charge the electric bike when it’s parked and secondly, it protects the bike and saves it from harm’s way.
The SunRed won a special jury mention at the Barcelona International Motor Show’s Awards for Technological Innovation.
