Not long ago did Apple file patents relating to home energy management and powering electronic devices using integrated solar cells. This time around, the company has filed a patent for a technology that illustrates a method for the display light from external light sources. The patent called the “External Light Illumination of Display Screens” show the image on modern LCD displays are difficult to outside facilities and reveals that the new technology will benefit from sunlight.

The system described in the latest patent makes use of a reflective layer (reflector) that is placed just behind the display. The light from any external source will be directed back on display on the inside for its illumination. The light doesn’t not necessarily have to be sunlight, even light of bulbs can be used. As of now, the technology is applicable for only laptops, but can be expected to be seen in the MacBook screens with solar lighting in the near future.
