Days after an adult male gorilla died at the National Zoo while veterinary specialists tried to implant a cardiac device, another western lowland gorilla died here on Monday.

Named Mopie, the gorilla is a 34-year-old male. It collapsed and died Monday at the Great Ape House. The animal had a chronic disease of the heart muscle, found in 1998. The disease decreased its ability to pump blood and killed the ape.
