ALDI SÜD group of companies just recently got delivery of the first production version of Mercedes-Benz Econic tractor-trailer that runs on natural gas. Equipped with NGT (natural gas technology), the semitrailer tractor will be used by the company for food distribution to grocery stores. While the "Blue Angel" environmental award winning vehicle normally could be fueled at the depot, it’s perfectly possible to run it on biogas too.

Lower CO2 emissions versus comparable, diesel powered vehicles, CO2-neutral operation when biogas is used as a fuel, zero particulate emissions and a low noise level - all these are the ecological benefits of the Econic NGT. Power is transferred by a six-speed automatic transmission.
